How We Handle Deck Construction — and Why It Matters

Most deck failures happen at the ledger connection — where the deck attaches to the house. This is where water infiltrates, wood rots, and connections loosen over time. We treat every ledger connection as a waterproofing task: flashing, Vycor tape, standoff connectors, and proper lag bolt patterns. The deck frame above it can last 30 years if the ledger is right. If it isn't, you're replacing the whole thing in 10.

How It Works

Our Deck Construction Process

1

Design & Layout

We develop a deck plan that works with your home's architecture, meets setback requirements, and maximizes how you'll use the space.

2

Permits

Deck permits are typically required. We submit structural drawings and manage plan check and inspection scheduling.

3

Ledger & Posts

The ledger is installed first with full waterproofing and code-compliant fastening. Posts set on code-compliant footings at required depth.

4

Frame & Decking

Joist system complete, decking installed per manufacturer requirements for composite or at proper spacing for wood.

5

Railing & Finish

Railing system installed per code height and baluster spacing. Any built-in seating, planters, or stairs completed.

★★★★★

"Finished on the exact date they promised, kept the site clean every single day, and the work passed City inspection first visit. I've hired two contractors before — the difference is night and day."

Margaret T. · Pacific Heights, SF
★★★★★

"14 weeks start to finish on our backyard ADU. They pulled every permit, coordinated every trade, and handled every inspection. We had a paying tenant 30 days after the final walkthrough."

James K. · Noe Valley, SF
★★★★★

"They actually restored the wood instead of covering it up. Matched the original trim profiles, fixed the rot sections properly. They treated the house like it mattered — because to us, it does."
