Deck Materials: A Comparison for Bay Area Conditions

Bay Area decks face marine layer moisture, UV, and salt air on coastal properties. Material selection affects how much maintenance you will do — and how long the deck lasts.

Trex Transcend composite
Used for: Premium decking

25-year fade and stain warranty. Looks like wood, won't splinter, and survives SF's moisture cycles without sealing.

Fiberon Horizon composite
Used for: Mid-range composite

Similar performance to Trex at slightly lower price point. Good value for budget-conscious clients who want composite.

Pressure-treated (AC2 rated)
Used for: Framing and deck boards

Required for all ground-contact framing. Budget choice for decking — needs sealing every 2–3 years in Bay Area conditions.

Simpson Strong-Tie joist hangers
Used for: Framing connections

Code required for all joist-to-beam connections. Stainless or hot-dipped galvanized for corrosion resistance.

We explain every material choice in our proposals. You know what's going into your home and why before any work starts.
