A seismic retrofit for a cripple wall home involves bolting the mudsill to the foundation, installing plywood sheathing on the cripple wall studs, and sometimes adding anchor straps at the top of the cripple wall.
Foundation repair caused by settling, soil movement, or seismic damage is typically excluded from standard homeowner policies. Earthquake insurance may cover seismic damage. We recommend checking your policy before assuming coverage.
