Floors on a Slab
Concrete slabs release moisture, and a slab can look dry and still carry enough to cup a wood floor or loosen adhesive. We test moisture before installing wood over concrete and use the vapour barrier or underlayment the product calls for. On slabs, engineered hardwood and LVP are usually better choices than solid hardwood.
Heat and Dry Air
Wood shrinks in dry summer air and expands in damp winters. Letting it acclimate in the house before installation, and leaving the right expansion gap at the walls, prevents the gaps and buckling that show up later. Sun through west-facing windows also fades wood and some vinyl over time, so UV-resistant finishes and window coverings are worth considering in those rooms.
Older Central Sacramento Homes
In Midtown, East Sacramento and Land Park, many homes have original hardwood on a raised floor. As in any pre-1978 home, removing painted trim calls for lead-safe practices, and a refinish often restores floors that look worn out.
